Console Connection
Most tools can talk to your console over the network, so you do not need a USB drive. They can import objects straight from the console and export macros, sequences, timecodes and presets straight to it.
Set this up once and every tool uses it.
Console modes
Section titled “Console modes”Pick the mode that matches what you are connected to:
| Mode | Use it for |
|---|---|
| grandMA2 Console | a grandMA2 console on the network |
| grandMA2 onPC | grandMA2 onPC on this computer |
| grandMA3 mode2 | a grandMA3 console running in mode 2 |
| grandMA3 Console | a grandMA3 console on the network |
| grandMA3 onPC | grandMA3 onPC on this computer |
For the network modes, enter the IP Address of the console.
What to enable on the console
Section titled “What to enable on the console”The console ignores the app until you switch its remote interface on.
grandMA2, and grandMA3 in mode 2
Section titled “grandMA2, and grandMA3 in mode 2”Go to Setup > Console > Global Settings and set Telnet to Login Enabled.
grandMA3
Section titled “grandMA3”Go to Menu > In & Out > OSC and set:
- Preferred IP or Interface to the interface on your network. For grandMA3 onPC, use
127.0.0.1. - Port to
8000. GMA Toolbox sends OSC to UDP port 8000. - Enable Input to Yes. Set the IP or interface first, then enable the input.
- Receive Command (All) to Yes.
grandMA3 exports and imports use the datapool from Default Datapool on the Settings page.
Import from the console
Section titled “Import from the console”- Click Import from grandMA2/3 Console.
- Set the console mode and, for a network console, the IP address.
- Choose the Pool Type. Each tool offers the types it can read.
- Enter the IDs you want. Ranges and lists work, for example
1 + 5 Thru 8.
The app runs the matching export command on the console and loads the result. The dialog shows you the command before you start it.
Export to the console
Section titled “Export to the console”Every tool that builds macros, sequences, timecodes or presets can send them straight to the console instead of writing them to a folder. The button remembers whichever you used last.
One transfer at a time
Section titled “One transfer at a time”The app runs one transfer at a time. While a transfer is running you see a notification with its progress, and you can cancel it there. The import and export buttons stay disabled until it finishes.
If nothing arrives
Section titled “If nothing arrives”On grandMA3, a success message is not proof that anything arrived. OSC is one-way: GMA Toolbox sends the command and the console never answers, so the app always reports the data as sent. If the objects are not on the console, the OSC settings are the first place to look.
- Go through the grandMA3 OSC settings again, including the port. Enable Input has to be set after the IP or interface, or it does not stick.
- Check that the IP address is right and that both machines are on the same network.
- On macOS, the app needs permission for the local network. Use Request Local Network Access on the Settings page, and see Known Issues.
